Privacy Policy
How Starman Nova handles information collected through the site, email signup, launch reminders, analytics, corrections, and future product features.
Overview
Effective date: July 11, 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how Starman Nova collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit the website, use the Starman Nova mobile app, sign up for updates, follow topics or launches, request reminders, submit corrections, use interactive features, or otherwise interact with the service.
By using the website or mobile app, you agree that information may be handled as described here. If you do not agree with this policy, do not use the service or submit information through it.
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly may include an email address, launch-reminder preferences, briefing preferences, followed topics or launches, correction details, contact-form submissions, beta-interest responses, and any other information you choose to send through the website or app.
Information collected automatically may include device and browser details, approximate location derived from network information, referring pages, pages viewed, links clicked, feature usage, dates and times of visits, error logs, diagnostic events, cookie or local-storage identifiers, and similar analytics or security information.
If you choose to submit a correction, source tip, question, or other message, the content of that submission may be stored and reviewed so the site can respond, improve source quality, update public pages, prevent abuse, or maintain records of editorial decisions.
Mobile App Data
The Starman Nova mobile app does not require an account. If you enable notifications, the app sends an anonymous installation identifier, an Expo push token, device platform, app version, notification preferences, followed launch identifiers, and recent app activity timestamps to Starman Nova so it can synchronize your choices and deliver the alerts you request. Notification permission is optional and can be declined or changed in the app and device settings.
The app uses PostHog to record limited product-interaction events such as screen views, launch follows, notification opt-in, sharing, webcast opens, email signup, and entity views. It uses Sentry for crash, error, and limited performance diagnostics with default personally identifiable information disabled. These providers may process an app or device identifier, device and operating-system details, network-derived approximate region, event timestamps, and diagnostic context on Starman Nova's behalf.
The app stores preferences, an anonymous installation identifier, onboarding state, followed-launch state, and cached public content on the device. If you enter an email address for The Weekly, that address is processed through the same email preference and delivery systems described below.
How We Use Information
We may use information to operate, maintain, protect, personalize, and improve the website and mobile app; provide newsletters, launch reminders, topic or launch follows, preference management, correction workflows, and other requested features; measure audience interest; troubleshoot bugs; monitor security; prevent spam or abuse; test new products; and understand which space topics, pages, and tools are useful to readers.
We may use submitted source tips, corrections, and related context to improve articles, trackers, guides, launch pages, briefing issues, source records, internal review notes, and future editorial or product decisions. We do not need to publish your name or contact details in order to use the substance of a correction or source tip.
We may use automated systems, artificial intelligence tools, analytics services, and other processors to help classify submissions, summarize source material, draft operational notes, detect abuse, improve recommendations, or support editorial and product workflows.
Email, Reminders, and Preferences
If you sign up for a briefing, launch reminder, topic follow, beta list, or similar update, we may use your email address and preferences to send the messages you requested, related service notices, preference confirmations, unsubscribe confirmations, and occasional updates about Starman Nova features.
You can unsubscribe from marketing or briefing emails using the unsubscribe or preference controls provided with those messages. We may still keep limited records needed to honor unsubscribe requests, maintain suppression lists, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, or operate transactional features you continue to use.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
The site may use cookies, local storage, pixels, analytics identifiers, session storage, and similar technologies to keep features working, remember preferences, measure traffic, understand feature usage, improve content, monitor performance, prevent abuse, and support future advertising, affiliate, or audience-development features.
You can usually limit cookies or similar technologies through your browser or device settings. Some site features may not work correctly if those tools are blocked or deleted.
How We Share Information
We may share information with vendors, contractors, infrastructure providers, analytics providers, email delivery providers, hosting providers, error-monitoring services, database providers, automation tools, AI service providers, payment or commerce providers if added later, and other service providers that help operate, protect, analyze, or improve the site.
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce site terms, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, respond to lawful requests, preserve security, or protect Starman Nova, readers, service providers, or the public.
We may share or transfer information as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, transition to a new operator, or similar business transaction. We may also share aggregated, deidentified, or non-personal information for research, reporting, sponsorship, editorial, analytics, or business purposes.
Advertising, Analytics, and Sale or Sharing
We do not currently sell personal information for money. However, analytics, advertising, affiliate, measurement, or audience-development tools may involve identifiers, usage data, or similar information, and some privacy laws may define those activities as sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising.
We reserve the right to use advertising, sponsorship, affiliate, analytics, conversion-measurement, and audience-development tools in the future, subject to applicable law and any controls we make available at that time.
Retention
We may keep information for as long as reasonably needed to operate the site, provide requested features, maintain records, improve products, analyze performance, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, satisfy legal obligations, and support legitimate business purposes.
Different categories of information may be kept for different periods. For example, unsubscribe or suppression records may be kept longer than ordinary analytics logs so we can honor communication preferences.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, receive a copy of, object to, restrict, or opt out of certain uses of your personal information. We will honor legally required rights and choices when they apply.
You can also use available site, browser, email, and device controls to limit cookies, unsubscribe from emails, adjust preferences, or stop using features that request information.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No website, email system, database, or internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You should avoid submitting sensitive personal information, passwords, financial account details, health information, government identification numbers, or other highly sensitive data through ordinary site forms unless a feature clearly asks for it and explains why it is needed.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that such information has been collected, we may delete it.
International Visitors
The site is operated from the United States, and service providers may process information in the United States or other countries. Privacy laws in those places may differ from the laws where you live.
By using the site or submitting information, you understand that information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be effective when posted unless it says otherwise. Your continued use of the site after an updated policy is posted means you accept the updated policy.
